One of the most successful games of all time, Settlers of Catan is a trading and building game set in the mythical world of Catan. Players roll dice to determine which resources are generated each round and then must strategically trade those resources with other players to get what they need to build their settlements, cities, and roads. Expand your colony through the building of settlements, roads, and villages by harvesting commodities from the land around you. Trade sheep, lumber, bricks and grain for a settlement, bricks and wood for a road, or try to complete other combinations for more advanced buildings, services and specials.

With multiple ways to gain victory points and a board that changes in every play,

Settlers of Catan is a game that can be played hundreds of different ways.

Redefined board games
Review by Mark on 25/03/16
I had heard so much through word of mouth about this game that I just had to buy it.

Before this I only thought of board games as the types I played as a child, basically rolling dice and moving a player piece around a board, largely chance based and not much strategy involved.

Catan redefiend this all. A light strategy game that is as easy to learn as it is addictive, Catan involves placing settlements and building roads to gain victory points which will win you the game. Roads, settlements, cities and development cards are bought with resources. Settlements are placed on the corner of a hex. Each different hex has a number on it which corresponds with a die roll number.
Each hex also represents a certain type of terrain. When a die number is rolled with a number on a hex your settlement is on the corner of, you pick up a resource that is associated with that terrain hex.

You can trade resources with other players also. There are number of other game elements that keep the game balanced, and every game is different! The random placement of the terrain hexes keeps each game unique.

When I bought Catan, it's all my mates and I wanted to do for months, we actually saved a lot of money by staying in and playing this rather than going out.

A worthwhile investment! And when you're ready, buy the cities and knights expansion to make things much more interesting!
Don't Judge Catan by its Cover
Review by Chiara on 19/01/16
In general Catan is a lot of fun with strategy, luck of the dice roll and a necessary group of people to play.
Many friends who have never heard of the game- instantly judged it to be boring and now love it! Most times when the game is pulled out, it's played 3 to 4 times in row.
Catan I believe is mainly down to luck of the cards you get and the way you play. But hands down the ultimate game of our game board collection!
Building the road to fun

This is the game which introduced me to the wonderful world of board games. Easy to learn but tricky to win, the game always means a night of fun.
